Tour Details

Luxembourg, as a short break motorcycle destination, is Europe’s best kept biking secret. It may be a small country but is graced with well surfaced, curvy roads that wind through manicured farmland and shady woods that make up the majority of this very rural country. From the dense Ardennes forest in the north to the rocky outcrops of the Mullerthal region in the south, Luxembourg has it all.

The tour begins with an early morning Eurotunnel crossing to Calais, heading through France and into Belgium on the free autoroutes before we head cross country through the Ardennes into Luxembourg and to our destination for the next 4 nights, Vianden. Situated on the border with Germany this beautifully preserved medieval
village, complete with cobbled village centre and impressive 14th century chateau makes for an ideal base to explore Luxembourg and it’s neighbouring countries. You are more than welcome to unpack the panniers and enjoy the local delights that Vianden has to offer, but I hope you will join me on one, if not all of my planned ride outs.

Friday’s ride out will be a tour of Luxembourg itself. Without leaving it’s borders we will explore the diversity of this glorious region. Echternach (Luxembourg’s oldest town) will be on the itinerary, along with “Little Switzerland”, all these linked by smooth, wide well signed roads that are a delight to experience on a motorcycle.

More of the same on Saturday. Now venturing into Belgium and France we will initially head for Bastogne and its museum that commemorates the German offensive late in the Second World War, commonly known as The Battle of the Bulge. From here we head into France and Verdun, the site of a famous First World War battle before heading back to Vianden to discuss our experiences of the day.

Sunday we head for Germany.  Cochem is the destination. On the banks of the Moselle river, with it’s 11th century castle dominating the landscape, this beautifully decorated town is rich in history and a popular holiday destination. From here we will follow the Moselle valley back towards Luxembourg, enjoying the stepped valley
sides full of vineyards and the rolling hills that make for a very scenic travelling experience.

Returning to Calais for a mid afternoon Eurotunnel crossing we will travel through the Belgian Ardennes once more, taking in a coffee break before the final stretch to the coast on the free autoroutes.

Total mileage will be approximately 1,000 miles if you join us on all of our planned ride-outs.
